Winter Hues Chevron

Blues and grays are great for the winter.  And who doesn't love a simple chevron design?  I have combined some this season's hottest shades in this simple nail art design.  

The gorgeous periwinkle blue is Revlon Brilliant Strength Intrigue.  The silver is Sally Hansen Color Foil Sterling Silver.  Last but not least, the gray is Zoya Kelly, a deep, rich gray that I love for this season.

I painted my nails with Intrigue and used a striping brush for the rest.  I decided to invert the design on my accent nail to switch it up a bit.  Not so great at painting straight lines?  Grab some striping tape to help you achieve clean lines.

Stamping With Color Foil is a Dream!

Have you ever hunted down a hard-to-find, coveted polish?  I'm talking about going to over 10 stores to find one particular polish.  Picture visiting Ulta, CVS, Duane Reade, Target Harmon, and Walgreens, sometimes a couple locations of each.  Well, that's pretty much what I did last week while trying to get my hands on some of the limited edition Sally Hansen Color Foils.  Any company that comes out with a limited edition polish is a genius because the minute that label is put on it we all fight to get them.   My hunt ended at a Bed Bath and Beyond in NYC.  I nearly screamed with joy when I saw them!  So of course I bought 3...

The reason I wanted some of these polishes is because I heard they work really well with stamping.  And they totally do!!

This is my best stamping mani ever! The base color is Essie Find Me an Oasis from the Resort 2014 collection.  This ice blue is awesome for summer manis.

I stamped with Sally Hansen Color Foil Liquid Gold.  The pattern is from Mash Plate #43.  

If you've seen previous posts from us you'd know that sometimes we struggle with stamping.  Some polishes smudge easily or dry to quickly and some patterns are so hard to get straight.  The Color Foil formula is so perfect for stamping.  It doesn't smudge at all and the consistency is just right.  Plus, this particular pattern leaves room for error because it can be a little more random and doesn't need to be the same on each nail like some other patterns. 

I love how delicate and feminine this came out.  I was showing off this mani all weekend long.  

I also picked up two other shades from the collection, Titanium Flush and Minted Metal.  I can't wait to stamp with them!  If you have the opportunity to buy these polishes, do it!! Whether it's for stamping or for a solid mani, these polishes are worth hunting for.

Sparkly Blue

This is another mani I have hoarded for occasions like these when my nails are not photographable just yet. They are definitely getting better, but they aren't growing as fast as I thought they would be with the gel on them. Also, the SensatioNail gel formula doesn't seem to be agreeing with my nails. I am getting bad chipping at the tips within days. 

I have taken to the cyber world to ask for help and I found a magnificent blogger who is an expert at home gel manis. Michelle from Manic Talons wrote this great post about gel nails lifting and chipping. I asked her about what I should do and she suggested I try Gelish instead. So, I ran right out to my local Sally's and bought some. That will be my next step- soaking these bad boys off and starting over with the Gelish only. I'll keep you guys posted on how that goes.

For this spectacular mani I started with a black base, OPI Black Onyx (I call the the best black because it's opaque in one coat).  On the accent finger I used Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Mermaid's Tail. This polish is gorgeous! It has a mix of green and blue hexes in a black jelly base. I haven't tried this on its own, but I'm sure it's wonderful.

The rest of my nails are done with Sinful Colors After Party. This polish has all blue, mixed shaped glitters in a clear base. If you don't have any of these sparkly glitters from SC you must try them. They have a great formula and look stunning!! For $1.99 they are a must have!!!

My nails look so long in these pics. I hope they get back to that soon and stay that way. I swear I would have acrylics on right now if they weren't so damn expensive!!!

And the Oscar Goes To.... GRAVITY!

Last night was one of my favorite nights of the year, the Oscars!  Watching the Oscars has always been a family tradition.  We're big movie people and it's a great night to appreciate the best movies of the year.  Plus, I love watching the fashion, seeing who wore the best dress, and who made HUGE mistakes.  I think my favorite was Kate Hudson, she looks damn good! And Pharrell had to be kidding wearing those damn shorts!  When I thought things couldn't get better, a few years ago they added the Mani Cam and we get to see some of the stars walk their hands down the mani runway!  

One movie that won a lot of technical awards was Gravity.  While I haven't seen the movie yet, I can see how it would rake in the technical awards with all of the special effects and green-screening that took to make the movie look so real.  As fate would have it, I received my limited edition Picture Polish purchases in the mail just a few days before the Oscars.  My sister and I were so excited we were able to nab Gravity, Illusionist and Aurora.  Knowing that Gravity was likely to win big at the awards I thought I would try that one first...

I layered two coats of Gravity on top of one coat of Sally Hansen Nightwatch, a deep almost-black blue.  Gravity is described as multicolored (mostly blue and purple) scattered holo with holographic flecks that sparkle no matter what kind of lighting you are in.  Holy cosmic amazingness!

Isn't it gorgeous?! I just can't even deal with how amazing these polishes are.  My sister nearly passed out when I gave her the Aurora to try out this week.  

If you have an opportunity to buy or try these polishes, DO IT!!  I hate spending more than $10 on a bottle of nail polish but these ones are worth every single penny.

I am excited to try out Illusionist next.  All of the swatches show the polishes layered over black so I am going to try them out on other colors.  I wonder what they would look like on a light pastel?!

Winter Waterfall

HOLY COW.. All the new spring polishes, clothes and shoes are coming out and my bank account is going to be HURTING if I can't find a way to control myself.  I have been pretty good over the past month but I feel myself caving.  Someone save me from my over-spending self!  Phew, rant over... onto the nail art...

I have been wanting to try the waterfall look for a while and I finally got around to it this week.  I wanted to use mostly neutral tones and thought these colors went really nice together...

I painted my nails with Zoya Jaime, an iridescent pale pink, and the stripes were made using Sally Hansen Commander in Chic and silver and white Kiss nail art paint.  The Kiss striper brushes made this mani really easy to pull off. 

This is a simple and chic design that most people can recreate themselves, even if you're a beginner! 

 I love this mani and plan on trying it again with bright colors this spring, if spring ever comes!!!! I swear I might die if it snows again.  I almost fainted when I saw the grass outside! The harsh winter has done some serious damage to my skin and nails and I'm over it!

Dash Dot Dash Dot.... Morse Code for Nails!

Dot dot, dash, dot, dash.... It's Morse Code! I don't claim to know how to translate this pattern of dashes and dots, but in a perfect world it would say "Awesome Nails"!  This design is inspried by a similar design I came across several months ago (but I can't remember where!) and I wanted to give it a try. 

I painted my nails with Revlon Lily.  Then I used Essie Smokin' Hot and Sally Hansen Mint Sorbet to create the design with a nail art brush and a dotting tool.  I topped it off with NYC Matte Me Crazy topcoat.

It isn't perfect up close but still looks pretty cool and different.  

Me and the family are off to Florida for a few days so my sister and I may be off the grid this weekend.  We would love for you to show off your nail art pics on our Facebook page!

Femme Fatale Cosmetics Awesomeness!!!

When were were given the opportunity to review for Femme Fatale Cosmetics I nearly fell to the floor. I LOVE their stunning polishes (even though I have yet to own one of them). The glitter combinations they have are like no other. And now, after having the chance to use their polishes, I can say they are top of the line.

First up is Sea Pony, a bright purple crelly shimmer base with pink, yellow and red different sized glitters. Pictures show two coats of Sea Pony with two coats of HK Girl top coat.

The formula for this polish was great. It went on as smooth a chunky glitter can. I had to manipulate the glitter a little bit. I didn't have to dig for the bigger glitters, which makes a big difference to me.

This is definitely a great Spring/Summer color. I can't wait to bust it out again next year!!

You can see how nicely the coats layered and peek through the crelly base. LOVE THAT!

Next up is Fatal Attraction, a deep magenta with scattered holographic particles. 

Like most people, I had a really hard time capturing the beauty of the holo goodness in this polish. It was super sparkly and beautiful in the sunlight. 

It did eat up my top coat. I used two coats of Fatal Attraction and two heavy duty coats of HK Girl top coat. After all that I still didn't have a smooth surface. That's make me sad. :( Where does all that top coat go?? 

This fabulous beauty is Edge of the Cosmos, a name so perfect because of the large moons and stars (swoon). Here is the description from the Femme Fatale website: Edge of the Cosmos is a blackened purple base with fine holographic particles, and a variety of holo shapes and sizes. Resembles  being out in space and is amazing over Twilight Meteorite. To make this a little more interesting we vary batches slightly, replacing one or two glitters with another of same size and shape but different colour. We wanted to embody the ever-changing beauty of the universe with our mini version in a bottle ;)

How amazing is that? 

This polish is more sheer so I used one coat of Sephora by OPI Just a Little Dangerous as a base, one thick coat of Edge of the Cosmos and two coats of HK Girl top coat. I am so blown away by this polish! The holo glitters pop out like crazy! I got TONS of compliments on this polish, and who doesn't love that??

The thing I love most about this polish was that the stars and moon didn't jut out and catch on everything. You can see the star in the picture below looks almost rounded to my finger. EVERY nail had a star or moon or BOTH and none of them stuck out! Amazing! Oh, did I mention I didn't have to fish for glitter in this polish either? 

Lastly is the lovely Wolfsbane, a deep purple almost blue base filled with navy hexes and shreds, blue moons and small red flecks. 

While this could probably be opaque in 2-3 coats, I chose to use a base coat to avoid clumping the glitter. I used one coat of Sally Hansen Insta-Dry Currant Trend, one thick coat of Wolfsbane, and two coats of HK Girl top coat. The formula for this polish was a little trickier than the others. It was goopier, so I had to play with it a bit to make it even across the nail. After the top coat I was happy with the coverage. Again, the moons did not stick out and I didn't have to fish for them. :)

**MACROS**

Aaahhhhh.....I just can't get enough of some good macros!!!

Overall, I was super pleased with the Femme Fatale polishes. One thing I was disappointed about (not to sound greedy at all) was the mini bottles. I LOVE the Femme Fatale bottles SO MUCH!!! As a hoarder...I mean collector of polishes I would have loved to add a full Femme Fatale to my collection. I'll have to just keep it on the list. :)

Fantastic Clash-Tastic

Indie Polish is, you guessed it, an indie polish brand that makes an array of amazing glitter polishes. They are always having flash sales to go along with their already great prices!!

This spectacular chunky glitter is Clash-Tastic! There's a lot in this polish, which is what makes it so FANTASTIC! Smaller red hexes, medium light purple hexes, large blue hexes (these are the hard ones to get out the bottle), medium magenta circles and tons of bright blue micro matte glitter (this is my favorite part I think). 

I started off this mani with a coat of Nail Pattern Boldness Glitter-A-Peel. I layered one coat of Clash-Tastic over 2 coats of China Glaze Refresh Mint. I know what you're thinking: That looks blue! It is. I have a faulty bottle of Refresh Mint that looks like robin's egg blue. I've read some other bloggers have had the same issue. Go figure. Anyway, I topped this off with Sally Hansen Dries Instantly and then Essie Matte About You.

I love glitter polishes matted, don't you???

MACROS :)

I used a pointy orange wood stick to push down the larger glitters to help with lifting. Do you have any tips/tricks to applying these chunky type glitters?

Picture Polish Dotticure

The most simple form of nail art IMO is a dotticure! It looks hard to do and people are super impressed by it, which is always the goal right?? LOL 

For this dotticure I used Picture Polish Mad Magenta as my base. I then used different sized dotting tools to created the pattern using Color Club Halo Hues, Sinful Shine Most Sinful, Sally Hansen Pink a Card and more Mad Magenta. 

This is the first time I tried the layering of dots using different colors. This effect is amazing and really takes the dotticure to the next level, but is still easy!!

I'm loving the color combo here as well. The addiction of the holo polish was the icing on the cake! Mmmmmm!! Love my holos!!!

What do you think of the dotticure?? You'll definitely be seeing more of them from me because I love the way they look and they are the closest thing to nail art I can do successfully. :)

Birthday Polish Haul...the Best Kind!!

Usually I would just post a pic on Facebook of my new polishes, but the polishes my sister Vicky got me for my birthday were so amazing I had to give them their own post!!!

What you see here are a lot of first timers for me, so when I tell you I cried when I opened this box of goodies is no lie. That's when you know you have a real problem. Forget hoarding...forget the pile of untried polishes....have you cried over polish?? HAHA Yeah, this girl has! 

So what you see here, starting with the less elusive: Color Club Jackie Oh!, Maybelline Color Show Clearly Spotted, Sally Hansen Pink A Card .

On to the fantabulous indies of which I have yet to own till now: Picture Polish (OH MY GAWD!!!!!) Frosting AND Mad Magenta, KBShimmer Totally Tubular, and Rainbow Honey Special World.

When I was digging around in the box and I felt this one, I knew I should save it for last. Not only is it an amazing polish, it's a Limited Edition. Dee from Rainbow Honey made this LE for her birthday and only 100 were released. I got #94!

I can't wait to share all of these pretties with you!! Thanks to my sissy for picking out some wonderful polishes. She's knows my taste so well!!! XOXO

Real Dried Flowers and Gold 3D Nail Art Stickers

There have been a lot of nail art supplies popping up in different stores. It's nice to see the nail art trend branching out. But buyer beware!!! These supplies are being sold for much more than they are worth because of supply and demand. Not many companies are selling these products in stores, and most people don't know of good websites (cough, cough, bornprettystore.com) to purchase them from so they set the prices as high as they think people will purchase them.

First up, we have real dried flowers in 12 colors for the amazing price of $3.48. Each color comes with 4 flowers in the container pictured.

 

Dried Flowers

I used cuticle nippers to separate the small flower stems. I then used a tweezer to dip the back of each flower into top coat and placed it onto the nail.

The flowers looked really nice without top coat, but we all know that wouldn't last a minute. I used Sally Hansen Dries Instantly very thickly on the flower area. I needed about 3 coats to get an almost smooth finish. You could probably be ok with sealing the flowers on with just one coat, but I'm not crazy about that bumpy finish so I laid it on thick.

I love the way these look and I've had a ton of compliments. People can't believe they are real flowers! So fun!!

Next up are some gold 3D nail art stickers that are just $1.99 per set. They come in silver or gold and have many different shapes to choose from.  You can find these on their site here.

These look so awesome and they are so easy to apply.  You just stick them on and cut off the excess. I'm not usually in to the 3D nail art but these are just the right amount of 3D.  They don't stick out too much.

The contrast on the black polish really makes it pop.  I have seen other reviewers use it on lighter colors, which gives it a more subtle look.
