Spring Blooms

Spring is such a lovely time of year.  The flowers and trees are blooming and it is almost summer beach time!  Floral nail art is perfect this time of year.  Creating a floral print freehand is pretty tough so why not go an easier route?  That's right, my favorite water decals!

My base color is Revlon Lily and I used Stella by LynB Designs on my accent nail to add some sparkle.  

I like that the flowers came in different sizes and some pieces were just leaves.  

There were so many flowers on the sheet that I have plenty to use for another mani. Yay!  Check out Born Pretty's huge selection of water decals here.

Does anyone else's pets get in the way when you are trying to photograph your mani?  This is Sophie.  I just adopted her in February.  She was very intrigued by the light box and I had a hard time getting pictures because of her interference!

Purple Mosaic

This purple mosaic is one of my favorite designs I've made this year so far.  Striping tape makes this complicated design pretty simple!  

The base color on the mosaic nails is Spoiled Daddy's Credit Card.  The blurple shade is Revlon Impulsive and the lilac is Essie Play Date.

I created the mosaic design by laying striping tape in various angles.  Then I filled in the spaces with Play Date and Impulsive.  Be sure to carefully remove the striping tape to avoid smudging. 

I used a thin brush dipped in Daddy's Credit Card to correct any minor errors. 

I have seen the mosaic design from several nail connoisseurs, but I am loving this one.  I love, love, love purple!   These shades are two of my favorite and they contrast each other very nicely.

Winter Hues Chevron

Blues and grays are great for the winter.  And who doesn't love a simple chevron design?  I have combined some this season's hottest shades in this simple nail art design.  

The gorgeous periwinkle blue is Revlon Brilliant Strength Intrigue.  The silver is Sally Hansen Color Foil Sterling Silver.  Last but not least, the gray is Zoya Kelly, a deep, rich gray that I love for this season.

I painted my nails with Intrigue and used a striping brush for the rest.  I decided to invert the design on my accent nail to switch it up a bit.  Not so great at painting straight lines?  Grab some striping tape to help you achieve clean lines.

Valentine's Day Manis, Double Time!!

Happy Valentines Day everyone!  I know many of you are probably overloaded with Valentine's Day manis by now, but still I have to share mine!!  I've been super busy so I did two fairly simple designs.  Here we go!!

In this first mani I painted by nails with Essie No Baggage Please.  This shade has become my go-to pink.  In fact, I need to buy more! I striped my accent nail with Zoya Dove using a striping brush. 

I painted the heart and the XOXO using NYC Wine Bar and a nail art brush.  I am loving the layered look of the accent nail and hope to think of more designs like this.

In the my second V-day mani I painted my nails with Revlon Rich Rasperry.  My pinky nail has a layer of Glitter Guilty Glam Girl, just for some extra sparke :)

The accent nail is painted with Essie Best Friend's Boyfriend, a sheer pink, and topped with Essie Luxeffects Pure Perfection before I stamped.  Then I used Rich Raspberry to stamp the hearts from Mash Plate #48.  The more I stamp, the better I get at it.  This one worked perfectly on the first try! Yay!

I love both of these manis because they are simple but still festive and eye-catching.  I've seen some crazy and intricate designs this Valentine's Day and I am so impressed by the creativity of my fellow bloggers!  I am planning on stepping it up a notch for Easter, watch out!

Dash Dot Dash Dot.... Morse Code for Nails!

Dot dot, dash, dot, dash.... It's Morse Code! I don't claim to know how to translate this pattern of dashes and dots, but in a perfect world it would say "Awesome Nails"!  This design is inspried by a similar design I came across several months ago (but I can't remember where!) and I wanted to give it a try. 

I painted my nails with Revlon Lily.  Then I used Essie Smokin' Hot and Sally Hansen Mint Sorbet to create the design with a nail art brush and a dotting tool.  I topped it off with NYC Matte Me Crazy topcoat.

It isn't perfect up close but still looks pretty cool and different.  

Me and the family are off to Florida for a few days so my sister and I may be off the grid this weekend.  We would love for you to show off your nail art pics on our Facebook page!

Colorful Plaid!

This mani is inspired by a method I read about on Rebecca Likes Nails.  To achieve the straight lines of a plaid design I used painted Scotch tape.  I painted several strips of tape in the colors I chose and let them dry thoroughly.  Then I cut the tape in strips with varying widths.  That's the most tedious part of the mani.  After that you simply stick the strips in a plaid design and trim any excess tape.  A thick coat of topcoat is key with this kind of mani, especially if you want it to last.  So far I have worn this mani for 2 days and it's holding up well!

This is the first time I've tried this method and I have to admit that it was pretty time consuming, but having straight, clean lines made it totally worth it!

Revlon Sheer Petal (pale pink base color)

Revlon Violet (purple)

Essie Camera (hot pink)

Julep Kaylen (neon orange)

Peace and Glitter Make the World Go Round

This mani features Revlon Temptress, which is a great bubblegum pink, Sally Hanson Plum Luck, my favorite plum purple, and Essie Luxeffects Topcoat in A Cut Above, a cute pink glitter topcoat. I highly recommend the Luxeffects line. I have two colors (A Cut Above and Pure Pearlfection) from this line and love them both! I also used stars from the Sephora by Opi Nail Gems set.

I like to use 2 coats of the glitter to get an extra glittery look.  I really like the effect of the glitter topcoat on the dark Plum Luck color.  I used a nail art pen and Sally Hanson Plum Luck to paint the peace sign on my ring finger.  The gems are great because you just stick them on and seal with topcoat!  The only thing I don't like about the gems is that they are very 3-D and stick out more than I would like.  But they are cute and add a nice touch to your mani  :)  

My cold remedy is nail polish :)

After suffering from a really bad cold for several days I decided to treat myself to some new products and I tried them out in this mani.  

I painted all of my nails in Revlon's Impulsive.  This is the perfect navy-purple polish that I've been looking for, I love it!  Then I painted all of my nails with Essie Luxeffects in Pure Pearlfection.  This is a great top coat that adds a subtle sparkle to your mani.  Check out the entire Luxeffects line from Essie.  I have a feeling I might be buying more of these lovely topcoats!  And for the accent nail I used Pure Ice Beeware silver glitter topcoat.  As you can see, this topcoat is much more blingy than the Essie topcoat.  It all came together to make a simple, wintery mani with lots of sparkle!!

Winter Outside, Spring on My Fingers!

It's been so cold and grey outside lately and I decided to brighten up my life by adding some spring to my nails.  This is the first time I am trying to paint flowers on my nails and it was a lot easier than I thought it would be.  I started by painting my nails with two coats of Revlon Sheer Petal, a sheer pink.  After that was completely dry I painted on little red blobs using red acrylic paint and a thin nail art brush.

Looks easy enough so far right?  Next I mixed the red acrylic paint with some white to make a pinkish-red color that is just a few shades lighter than the red.  I dabbed the pinkish-red paint in the middle of the red blobs.  

Next I added tiny black dots in the middle.

Then I used green to add a few leaves.  I let it dry for 5 minutes before adding the topcoat.

Keep in mind when using acrylic paints that the colors get brighter and the paint smooths out once you add the top coat.  It looks really cute and was easy, even when I was painting with my left hand!  This manicure is a cute, simple pattern and I will definitely experiment more with acrylic paints and flower patterns.

Fun With Studs

Sister #2 here, all of my posts will be in blue.  You can probably already tell us apart by our different hands :)

This week I decided I wanted to incorporate silver studs in my mani.  These studs can be found on most nail art websites for pretty cheap.  Here is what I came up with:

It took some time and patience but the end result was way worth it.  I started by painting the entire nail with two coats of  Cheers by Revlon, it's a peachy pink that works for any season.  After I let that dry I used nail tape to form the line in the middle.  When you're using nail tape it's best to do it one nail at a time, at least for me.  I painted between the tape with Smokin Hot by Essie, a purplish grey color.

Then I used an orangewood stick to place 3 of the silver studs along each line. They stick really well even if the polish has dried.  Finish off with some top coat and voila!  It's a fun mani that has been getting a lot of attention so far.  I see a lot more studs in my future and who doesn't love a good stud?
