Stairway to Heaven

Gray manis are all the rage right now because of 50 Shades of Grey! After I saw the movie (which I thought was awesome!) I was drawn to these colors. I've totally jumped on the band wagon. :) 

To achieve this design I used larger chevron decals from Nail Vinyls. I love these vinyls and have a few different kinds. Changing the direction of these decals from horizontal to diagonal totally changes the way you see it. My son said they looked like buildings. LOL!

I started with a shimmery base of Poshinality Old Soul. The dark gray is  SinfulShine Steel Reserve and the lighter gray is Color Club Silver Lake. 

 I loved wearing this mani and it lasted almost a week!!! I love when that happens!!

I've been trying to work on my photos for you all. I don't have the money to buy a fancy camera, so I have to work with what I have. I've been trying different lighting, different settings and different hand positions. I see amazing pictures from other bloggers and I get so jealous!! HOW DO YOU DO IT??

Valentine's Day Mani Mania

Happy Valentine's Day!!! 

This Valentine's Day I was inspired to create more than one look. I chose pinks as my primary colors because I despise red nail polish. I know, I know, don't hate me! If I had time I think I would have done another one. I just can't get enough of all the hearts and LOVE!!

This mani is so girly and fun! My new favorite purchase is this bright pink from Color Club, Wicker Park.  I'll definitely be wearing this a lot this Spring/Summer!

I free handed the heart using negative space. This is a technique I'll never get tired of. For the other nail I used striping tape and a dotting tool to create the heart. This spectacular silver holo is Digital Nails Supernova. WOW!

So stinkin' cute! 

The second mani I created is a little different and much easier to execute.  Some glitter bombs and stamps are all you need. 

The magenta polish is Polish Me Silly Aloha Baby!. This is has a fantastic formula and is gorgeous. I stamped using Color Club Wicker Park. 

Now for the glitter bombs! The all pink pinky is LAV Lacquer Pink Matter.  This has only two coats for opacity.  The heart glitter bomb is Picture Polish Frosting by Cosmetic Cupcake. This is the only polish I have that has hearts it in so I knew I had to use it! So fun!!

What could be easier than stamping? It's not always perfect and does take some practice, but they are always fun and unique!

Born Pretty Review Part 2: Stamping Galore

For part 2 of our review for Born Pretty Store, I have some new products to show you. I you haven't used BPS yet, then you must. They have amazing products you can't find, great prices AND FREE Worldwide shipping!!

I've only used nail foils once before. I'm not a huge fan of them because I don't think they last. However, they are super easy to apply and can be a great way to accent your nails.

The foils I used are Nail Foils in style A13. I didn't use a base color, but I wish I did.  You can see a lot of bald spots and that's never good.  These pictures were taken of my second try at this set of foils. I know there a rules when using and applying foils. I thought I followed them, but they didn't seem to hold.  The surface was tacky and I was able to pick them right off. Who doesn't love a good polish picking session?

I think something might be off with my foil glue. The foils themselves were great. 

Onto my favorite part! STAMPING! I have two different plates to review.

The first is called Radiating Pattern BP11. This plate is seriously cool.  These are designs I would never be able to do on my own.

Base color is Color Club Jackie O stamped with black.

While my stamping didn't come out great, I still LOVE this mani and this plate. I used a marshmallowy stamper which warped the design way too much. Next time I'll use a more firm stamper.

The second plate I used has a vintage theme, BPL007.  The thing I love about this plate is that there are 25 IMAGES!!

The base of this mani is my favorite mint, Zoya Neely stamped with SinfulShine Steel Reserve. I am a huge peacock feather fan, so I knew I had to give this image a shot.  I love this color combination too!

This is another image from the same plate.  This kind of image was harder for me to apply because of the straight lines.  I usually try to stick with images that don't have to be lined up perfectly. Case in point, this image. I need lots more practice!! I used a new Indigo Bananas polish as the base, Immortal Game (these pics do not do it justice), stamped with Sephora by OPI Social Climber (my favorite silver stamping polish!).

Holo-on-Holo Valentine Hearts

Last year I wasn't so into the Valentine's manis. This year I'm a little more into it, but I wish I had more time to do some of the more time consuming nail art. Did you see the swirl dotticure Lucy's Stash did? I really wanted to try my hand at that. Maybe another time with some spring colors. 

This is one of the AH-MAZING NailNation3000 polishes I bought from the sale they were having on gloss38.com, Phab Phalanges.  It's a beautiful magenta holo with a perfect formula.

I had a very hard time photographing the stamping I did on these. Believe it or not ALL of these pics are stamped with hearts.

I thought it would looks super fab if I stamped a holo with another holo. I stamped with Color Club Halo-Graphic, a light pink SUPER holo. The pics below are all without flash and you can see the hearts a little more clearly.

This was my first full nail stamp and I think they came out fairly straight. I'll have some more stamped hearts in my next Valentine's mani. <3 font="">

Wantable Makeup Box Review

A couple of weeks ago the folks over at Wantable asked us if we would review one of their monthly cosmetic boxes.  Of course we were more than happy to oblige☺ Wantable offers several different subscription boxes including makeup, accessories and intimate apparel.  All of their boxes are $36 for a montly subscription or $40 for a one-time purchase.  Makeup boxes come with 4-6 full-size items and each box is valued at $80-$100.  Accessory boxes come with 3 or 4 items and intimate apparel boxes come with 4-5 items.  To sign up you simply choose the box you want and fill out a profile specifying your likes and dislikes.  Items are hand-picked to match your unique style and no two boxes are ever the same.  Wantable also gives you the option of returning the box if you're not happy with the products and you can choose to skip a month.  Okay, enough with the details, now on to the fun stuff!! 

When I received the box I was blown away!  Since it is a makeup box I figured it would be mostly makeup like eyeliner or mascara and maybe one or two polishes, but we got four!

Lise Watier eyeshadow in Beige Scintillant

This eyeshadow is a shimmery gold shade that is great for any season.  It applies very evenly and feels velvety smooth.

This is FACE Stockholm in Cream Crocus.  I love this deep purple navy color for Fall!

Here is Color Club First Looks from their 2012 True Fashion Collection.  This dark teal shimmer is another great color for the upcoming season.

Laqa & Co's Blurple is the perfect grape color that can be worn year-round.  This polish went on so smooth, I was very impressed!

Knockout's Pool was my favorite polish of the bunch.  This matte turquoise is just my style.  Knockout's super tall bottle really caught my eye and I was surprised by how much more controlled it felt when I was applying the polish because of the extra long top.

I love that the box came with brands that I have never tried before (excluding Color Club) and the colors are all on trend for Fall.  All of the brands are high quality products that I would definitely try again.  All in all, I was very impressed with this box.  Signing up is easy, shipping was fast and I loved all the products.  I'm sure their accessory and intimate apparel boxes are great too!  Visit Wantable's site here to check out subscription options and sign up for your own personlized box, you won't reget it!

Picture Polish Dotticure

The most simple form of nail art IMO is a dotticure! It looks hard to do and people are super impressed by it, which is always the goal right?? LOL 

For this dotticure I used Picture Polish Mad Magenta as my base. I then used different sized dotting tools to created the pattern using Color Club Halo Hues, Sinful Shine Most Sinful, Sally Hansen Pink a Card and more Mad Magenta. 

This is the first time I tried the layering of dots using different colors. This effect is amazing and really takes the dotticure to the next level, but is still easy!!

I'm loving the color combo here as well. The addiction of the holo polish was the icing on the cake! Mmmmmm!! Love my holos!!!

What do you think of the dotticure?? You'll definitely be seeing more of them from me because I love the way they look and they are the closest thing to nail art I can do successfully. :)

Birthday Polish Haul...the Best Kind!!

Usually I would just post a pic on Facebook of my new polishes, but the polishes my sister Vicky got me for my birthday were so amazing I had to give them their own post!!!

What you see here are a lot of first timers for me, so when I tell you I cried when I opened this box of goodies is no lie. That's when you know you have a real problem. Forget hoarding...forget the pile of untried polishes....have you cried over polish?? HAHA Yeah, this girl has! 

So what you see here, starting with the less elusive: Color Club Jackie Oh!, Maybelline Color Show Clearly Spotted, Sally Hansen Pink A Card .

On to the fantabulous indies of which I have yet to own till now: Picture Polish (OH MY GAWD!!!!!) Frosting AND Mad Magenta, KBShimmer Totally Tubular, and Rainbow Honey Special World.

When I was digging around in the box and I felt this one, I knew I should save it for last. Not only is it an amazing polish, it's a Limited Edition. Dee from Rainbow Honey made this LE for her birthday and only 100 were released. I got #94!

I can't wait to share all of these pretties with you!! Thanks to my sissy for picking out some wonderful polishes. She's knows my taste so well!!! XOXO

Sparkle and Texture

Today we have some more products from KKCenterHK. Part one of two posts contains products that will add sparkle and texture to any mani.

 First up, we have a loose neon pink glitter. I haven't gotten into any of the textured looks or polishes, but this is very similar to that at a fraction of the cost of any of the textured polishes.

Pink Neon Nail Glitter

This mani has gotten me back in the mood for PINK! I used Zoya Sweet and topped it with Nailtini Blue Flame. For the accent nail I dipped my finger into the pot of glitter and didn't use a top coat. These pics don't do this glitter justice. It is SO SPARKLY and pretty!!

Next up is a somewhat ocean themed mani of sorts using blue micro-beads. 

Color Club Blue Heaven (pointer and pinky), Essie Avenue Maintain (middle and thumb)

When using the micro-beads I first started with a base coat of white polish. Then I used a thick coat of top coat and poured the micro-beads on till my nail was covered. Finally, I added a hefty coat of top coat.

When the top coat dried it melted off the color coating on the micro-beads and kind of cured everything together to make this cool textured blue looking polish. 

If you like the textured look I would definitely recommend these micro-beads and the loose glitter. Both come in many colors.

Brighter IS better!

There was a time when all I wore was pink polishes. This week I put on a pink polish and it just didn't look right. I was painting my toes, (Zoya Neely mint green with a metallic silver french tip...AMAZING!) and my hubby says, "Why don't you do something normal like a regular french manicure or red?" HAHAHA!! I almost died!! I never wear red and didn't I just post something about how french manicures are so 90s? He's such a comedian my husband. LOL 

The moral of the story is...I love bright, colorful polishes. AND GLITTER!!! This mani had both, of course.

The bright, bold blue is Color Club Chelsea Girl.  It borders on what I would call a neon blue. I have read that these kinds of polishes stand out more when used with a white base. I will definitely try that next time because I was hoping this polish would have been brighter.

I love an accent nail made of glitter. I used one coat of the Chelsea Girl and two coats of Lush Lacquer Neon Blast, a sheer black base glitter bomb filled with neon glitter of all different shapes.

How do you feel bright, colorful manis? Are they for you? Or do prefer the pinks and more subdued palettes?

Colorful Stripes

I've been rocking this striped mani all weekend and I have gotten so many compliments!  Here's how it's done...

Paint vertical stripes of 3 or 4 colors.  The stripes don't have to be perfect because any imperfections will be undetectable once you put the black over it. 

Once the stripes are dry place striping tape across the nails.  You can try all different designs with the tape, vertical, horizontal, zig zag... be creative!  Then paint over it with black nail polish and remove the tape to reveal colorful stripes.

Tada!  I think next time I want to try white on top instead of black to get a brighter, summery look :)
