It's A Birthday Mani!

It's my birthday today!! I won't tell you all how old I am but I will say I don't feel a day over 24.  Over the weekend I had lots of fun festivities with family and friends including a huge BBQ at our house with tons of food and drinks.  I love any excuse to host a party and get all of my loved ones together.  This party featured a brand new karaoke machine.  We had a blast! 

Obviously I had to rock a birthday mani...

My awesome sister gave me a gift bag full of nail goodies including some polishes, stamping plates and other fun stuff.  She added some new indie brands to my collection, Mentality and Polish Me Silly.  I used a couple of the polishes in this mani.  The pink shimmer is Mentality Empress, a bright pink shimmer that dries matte.  I decided I wanted a glossy finish for this mani so I added topcoat.  

My thumb nail has a crazy topper from Polish Me Silly called Play Date... This is like a colorful confetti explosion for your nails and I knew it would be perfect for a birthday mani accent nail.  

Isn't the cupcake adorable?  I was surprised I was able to paint it on my tiny nail bed, but it worked out well.  I certainly had my fill of cake, cookies and sweets this weekend, yum!

Unfortunately I have to work today so thankfully I was able to get all the celebrations out of my system over the weekend.  I'm sure the other nail products my sister gave me will make appearances on the blog soon.  Time for neons and pastels!

Superchic Lacquers Giveaway WIN!

When it comes to giveaways my motto is, you gotta be in it to win it! I have been winning giveaways left and right. Some I keep, some I give to friends. I have tried to enter more giveaways so that I don't spend as much on polish. And it has been working!

This is an amazing polish I won from a giveaway hosted by Naked Without Polish. Second Star to the Right by Superchic Lacquer is and amazing blue polish with hot pink glitter in multiple sizes.  As part of this prize, I also won Never Grow Up (not shown). Both of these polishes are a part of the Where Dreams Are Born Collection.

I gotta have an accent nail!! This bright pink is Zoya Ali with a glitter topper from Indie Polish, Clash-tastic. This is a perfect mix of glitters!

I haven't worn a glitter polish in a long time and I love the way this all came together. Removal was a whole other story!

What's your Fetish?

Can nail polish be considered a fetish?? LOL

Some of you may recognize this AMAZING polish by Cult Nails, Fetish. It's a jet black with a rubber finish. 

Not only is this a stunning looking polish, but it has the most amazing application of any polish I've ever used. To quote Barbara Streisand, "It's like buttah!" It's so smooth and creamy!!

The other thing that was amazing about this polish was the clean up. Usually when you get a little BLACK polish on your cuticles it makes a mess, stains and it's sometimes there until you remove the manicure. Not this polish. I used a nail art brush to touch up around my nails with acetone and the polish came off CLEAN!! I was amazed!!

The accent color I used is Avon Brushed Metal Dusty Copper. This line from Avon is a textured polish. I HATE TEXTURED POLISHES.  When I saw these there was something about them that intrigued me. I love metallics, so I had to try them.

You can see that the polish isn't as textured as the sand based polishes, like the Zoya Pixies. I bought 4 of these polishes because I really loved them. You'll be seeing them soon!!

This is one of my favorite manis I've done in a long time. Fetish is INSANE!! I was hesitant when getting it because I'm not one to get multiples of colors I already have. (Haha who am I kidding!) I can just put a matte top coat on my OPI Onyx and achieve the same effect, right?? WRONG!!! This polish is so much more than a matte. I just love it!!!

I had to include so many pics because I just couldn't narrow them down. 

I snagged Fetish during Cults Nails flash sale on Friday the 13th (Buy 1 Get 1 Free). The other polish I got is Flushed LE. Can't wait to show it to you guys!!!

Kozmik Karma

A while back I picked up a bunch of minis from MOD Lacquer. This particular glitter bomb was the one that piqued my interest in this fab indie brand.

Behold the magnificent Kozmik Karma. This chunky glitter topper has multiple sizes and colors of hex glitters. The super larger silver holo hexes stand out the most!

I used OPI Onyx as my base to make the colors POP! I used a nail art brush to paint on an accent nail. It's kind of an upside down stiletto. 

I don't know what it is about these glitters that are different from others, they just shine more or something!! I love it!

On my right hand, big hexes landed just so on my pinky and ring fingers. Don't they look like studs?

Fantastic Clash-Tastic

Indie Polish is, you guessed it, an indie polish brand that makes an array of amazing glitter polishes. They are always having flash sales to go along with their already great prices!!

This spectacular chunky glitter is Clash-Tastic! There's a lot in this polish, which is what makes it so FANTASTIC! Smaller red hexes, medium light purple hexes, large blue hexes (these are the hard ones to get out the bottle), medium magenta circles and tons of bright blue micro matte glitter (this is my favorite part I think). 

I started off this mani with a coat of Nail Pattern Boldness Glitter-A-Peel. I layered one coat of Clash-Tastic over 2 coats of China Glaze Refresh Mint. I know what you're thinking: That looks blue! It is. I have a faulty bottle of Refresh Mint that looks like robin's egg blue. I've read some other bloggers have had the same issue. Go figure. Anyway, I topped this off with Sally Hansen Dries Instantly and then Essie Matte About You.

I love glitter polishes matted, don't you???

MACROS :)

I used a pointy orange wood stick to push down the larger glitters to help with lifting. Do you have any tips/tricks to applying these chunky type glitters?

INDIGO BANANAS Twice As Bright

Ain't it purty? This is the description from the IB Etsy page and it's a perfect one: Twice as Bright is a bright, pink jelly packed full of blue glass fleck duochrome pigment particles, and subtle holographic shimmer. This polish shifts to a blue-purple, purple pink, and then hot pink - so at extreme angles the polish appears an even brighter pink. Very bright, but not a neon, and not a matte - shiny and bright!

This week we experienced the epicness of Picture Polish Blog Fest 2013. My favorite part of it was that all those bloggers (130+) were asked to do nail art AND make a tutorial with the polishes they were given. I love this because I suck at nail art and need tutorials for any kind of success. 

The mani I voted for was from Gnarly Gnails and I used her tutorial to create this awesome skull. It came out pretty awesome considering I have zero skills!

LynBDesigns Glitter Love!!

Today we have some really wonderful glitters from LynBDesigns. She comes up with unique collections and is inspired by movies, books and many other interesting things you wouldn't think could be made into a polish. All her polishes are 3-Free!

First up is Red Fish, Blue Fish from the Many Colors of Seuss Collection.

This glitter bomb has a mix of red, blue, green and silver micro glitters with tiny black and white squares. I swatched using 2 coats  of RFBF over one coat of Sinful Shine Most Sinful with 2 coats of top coat.

The formula of this polish was a DREAM! It applied evenly and smooth, which is surprising for such a dense glitter polish. It was top coat hungry and could have even used a third coat, but that doesn't bother me if it applies well. 

Overall, I would say this is the perfect glitter polish!

Next up is Oh, You Beautiful Idiot from the Innuendos in Space Collection. 

This is another glitter bomb made with matte teal stars and an assortment of small glitters in green and blues.

When I first saw this in the bottle I fell in love. I love the color and the stars! I decided to use it without undies! The formula for this one wasn't as pleasant. It has that typical thick, goopyness you expect from a glitter polish. And the biggish stars didn't help things. But if you've worked with these kinds of polishes before you know how to manipulate them and get a good coat of polish on. So after two thick coats of polish and two thick coats of top coat, I was really happy with the super-sparkley results!

Then there was this little devil. Stars aren't always cooperative, even when you try to push them down with a wood stick. I clipped this with a cuticle cutter when it was super dry and added a little more top coat.

The stars are awesome, but I wish there was a contrast in the color so they stood out more.

MOD Lacquer Madness Part 1

Aren't these amazing??? I first saw MOD Lacquers in my Facebook newsfeed when a fellow blogger posted using Kosmic Karma (see that post here). I loved it so much I had to have it...and 6 others. LOL!  This is the first installment:

First up is Seabound.  MOD's etsy description says Seabound is a light sheer mint green cream that has tiny sparks of rainbow colors from the micro holographic glitter.  It's not so much minty, but more sea foam green.  

I put a heavy coat of a true mint polish as a base color and that didn't make a difference. Oh well. It's still an awesome polish. I had a hard time capturing the holo in these pics, but it's there. I used this on my toes too!!

Waxing Whimsical is a sheer mint green jelly base with a mix of different sizes and shapes of neon pink glitter. Again, not so much a mint, but a sea foam green. 

I LOVE this polish. The color combination is fantastic!!! These pics are of my left hand. I had to fish a little for the larger squares.

When I got to my right hand I got a little surprise...BUTTERFLIES!! Well hello there!! Now I love this polish even more!!

Cobalt Flame is a sheer bright cobalt blue with a hidden pink shimmer. Hidden is a great way to describe the pink shimmer. You can kind of see it in the pic below.

I have a bunch of cobalt blue polishes, but I had to have this one too. This is 3 coats. The shimmer definitely sets it apart from all the others.

I wore this mani to a wedding, so I added the heart accent using neon polish and glequins. Super cute!!

ellagee Double Feature Collection Review

I've been dying to get my hands on some ellagee polish, so when creator, Laura, contacted me to do a review I was so excited!! 

She sent me three polishes from the soon-to-be released Science Fiction Double Feature collection, inspired by the Sci-Fi classics. Included in the collection are amazing glitter bombs, solar changing, glow in the dark, and thermal changing polishes. It'll be an epic collection to say the least! 

First up is Twin Suns, a sheer pale yellow topper. It changes to a peachy-orange in direct sunlight. This polish is inspired by the twin suns of Tatooine, the planet and setting for many key scenes in the Star Wars saga.

I layered two coats of Twin Suns over two coats of white polish. The formula of this polish was very easy to work with and applied easily. It has a subtle golden shimmer that was very hard to capture in a photo. The photo above is taken with artificial lighting.

The only thing to be aware of when using this polish is top coat. A UV protectant top coat may prohibit the color changing effect. My first try at this mani I used Sally Hansen Dries Instantly and it didn't work for some reason. I started over and used Seche Vite and it was a success!! 

The photo below is taken in direct sunlight. The polish changes to a pale orangey color. SO COOL!!

Next Up is Redshirt, a beautiful glitter bomb that can be layered or stand alone. It has a clear base with small red, black and gold hex glitters. It is inspired by those unfortunate souls in the red shirts on the crew of the Star Trek Enterprise. 

I used one thick coat of Redshirt over black and two coats alone on my ring finger. The application was lovely. The glitter dispersed evenly and didn't drag. LOVE THAT! 

On to my favorite of the three, Not the Droids You're Looking For! Another glitter bomb filled with silver hexes, blue and gold circle glitters in a clear base. It is inspired by Laura's favorite droids, R2-D2 and C3PO. 

Can you see the resemblance?  LOL

I layered two coats of NTDYLF over two coats of white and two coats on its own on my ring finger. This polish was a little trickier to apply because of the larger glitters. The blue circles especially I found I had to fish for. 

It was all worth it in the end because I got this beautiful sparkly result!

This amazing collection will debut early July, so keep your eyes peeled!!
